How to Improve Amphitheater Acoustics

MBI's Weather Resistant Exterior Panels have been an important part of many successful amphitheater acoustical projects.

THESE JOBS INCLUDE SOME OF LIVE NATION'S OUTDOOR EVENT VENUES AND AMPHITHEATERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AS THEY STRIVE TO IMPROVE THE MUSICAL EXPERIENCE FOR PERFORMERS AND FANS.

Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana, is one of the venues that needed acoustical improvements. The “noisy” roof and concrete structures around the stage at Ruoff created many points of sound reflection. This reflection and accumulation of sound overpowered and challenged bands’ vocal clarity during concerts, so adding acoustical panels was worth considering.

Acoustical consultants from HDAcoustics reviewed, modeled, and analyzed the venue and designed a scheme for acoustical treatment. An experienced partner to MBI Products, HDAcoustics is an award-winning studio design and acoustical consultant firm located in Indiana. Together with concert engineers, their consultants recommended an acoustical reflected ceiling plan with the placement of MBI’s Lapendary Panels on the roof deck. More than seventy panels were installed using a research-based layout concept optimized for listeners.

Along with the roof banners, 8-foot sound absorption panels were also needed on the side stage areas, and MBI Products provided weather resistant products to reduce the noise problems comprehensively.

“We look forward to coordinating with the venue to attain full effectiveness of the design as a great enhancement to the sound of this iconic venue,” says Chuck Splain, vice president of sales, MBI Products.

As a leading manufacturer of amphitheater acoustic solutions, MBI’s Weather Resistant Exterior Panels have enhanced more than thirty amphitheaters and various outdoor venues nationwide, including:
