How to Improve Classroom Acoustics
Colorsonix® Acoustical Wall Panels by MBI Products can improve classroom acoustics while supporting a school’s identity by using its core colors in the design.
Why are classroom acoustics important? Because the way a student learns depends on what they hear and how they hear it.
A typical classroom contains multiple hard surfaces that reflect sound rather than absorb it, causing long reverberation times. Students surrounded by high, exposed ceilings, plasterboard walls, and bare floors are subject to hearing this reverberation leading to difficulty with sound intelligibility and consistency around the room. If they can't hear something clearly, they can't process it.
The maximum reverberation time for clear speech is about two seconds. The ideal time for classrooms or lecture spaces is lower than one second.
Improved learning with sound-absorbing panels
Fortunately, proper acoustic treatments can correct reverberation problems, as seen below in this classroom at a prestigious eastern university. The acoustic panels are covered in the university’s core colors. MBI's Colorsonix wall panels are offered in a wide range of prices and finishes.

Acoustical wall panels made of sound-absorbing material shorten reverberation times, vastly improving the hearing environment for students and instructors. “The acoustics are amazing!” said the client.
Instruction should not have to adapt to a noisy space; instead, the space should be adapted to facilitate instruction. The right acoustical panels can provide proper sound absorption to meet the needs of a proper learning environment and demonstrate school pride at the same time.
