Children's Village Child Care Center

2010-01-19

Overview

Children’s Village Child Care Center is a high-quality early childhood education facility located in Philadelphia. As a nationally accredited model program both locally and nationally, Children’s Village must maintain the highest standard of quality in it’s programming — and it’s facilities.

The Problem

The Center is comprised of 15 classrooms on four floors, with a majority of the classrooms separated by partial height partitions, and a reception area on the 2nd floor. The initial survey determined that the background sound levels in the classrooms were higher than desirable. A major cause was the build-up of sound in the classrooms due to a lack of acoustically absorptive materials.

The Solution

To help reduce the sound levels, we hung 2’x 4’x 1.5” Cloud-Lite Acoustical Baffles from the exposed wood deck, equivalent to approximately 50% of the ceiling surface area.

Outcome

Following the installation, a second survey was conducted, revealing a substantial reduction in background sound levels within the classrooms and reception area. As shown in the table below, the sound levels were reduced by 5-12 dB, with the exception of Classroom 301, which was influenced by particularly high sources levels at the time of the second survey.
